Disparities in medical weight loss advice affects obese patients

CBS News did an interesting report concerning the difference in weight loss advice given by doctors to African-American patients versus Caucasian patients. According to the new "Obesity" study, which was published January 2011, there are disparities in the medical weight loss advice black patients receive compared to their white counterpart regardless of the race of the doctor.

"This study suggests that regardless of the physician's race, black obese patience receive less weight-related counseling than white obese patients, " said the study's author Dr. Sara Bleich in a statement reported by CBS News.

It's unfortunate to hear that doctor's seem to be discriminating against black obese patience, especially those who are seriously looking for an FDA approved weight loss program.
